I am a qualified Therapeutic Child Counsellor and a registered member of BACP. My work is informed by child protection and safe-guarding procedures and practice.
Many children face challenges which can include developmental difficulties, lack of confidence and low self-esteem, depression, trauma and complex needs as a result of family and life circumstances.
Creative and therapeutic sessions can provide children with the opportunity to promote their wellbeing, help them explore their emotions and feelings and thus start to recover from difficult life experiences.
Using art, drama, music, movement, sand-play, puppetry, clay, poetry or any creative medium can build on a child’s emotional resilience, social skills, strengthening identity and a sense of self.
My approach is informed by attachment theory, cognitive, social and affective neuroscience drawing from Dan Hughes’ PACE model, Dan Siegal, The Whole Brain Child, and the science of relationships, creativity and resilience.
I begin with a parent consultation, to identify the needs of the child and, where necessary, I may suggest a further referral, with awareness of multidisciplinary practice. I also provide ongoing parent review sessions with respect to the child.
Weekly sessions of 50 mins can be on-going in a long-term capacity, supporting the child over a period of time, or time limited in which a specific issue can be addressed.
